Hima Cement Limited is hiring a Graduate Trainee – Procurement that implements procurement strategies in close cooperation with the Procurement Managers at a local level. The role involves managing the operational and tactical procurement of local goods and services, including sourcing, negotiating, and contracting.

Duration: Full-time Contract

Duty Station: Tororo and Kasese

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Researching new suppliers for low-value spot purchases and presenting them to Procurement Managers for screening.
  • Sourcing and comparing prices from several suppliers for all value spot purchases.
  • Negotiating prices and delivery dates.
  • Checking that goods and services are fit for purpose and meet company requirements prior to order placement.
  • Ensuring goods arrive on time and that suppliers are paid promptly.
  • Building relationships with low-value spot purchase suppliers and conducting quarterly reviews.
  • Monitoring and advising on issues that present risks or opportunities to the business.
  • Creating local purchase orders for suppliers, equipment, and services within authorized limits.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes

Technical Competencies

  • Bachelor’s (Honours) Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management or a related qualification from a recognized University.
  • Postgraduate qualification in CIPS or equivalent is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a procurement role (sourcing, operations) with exposure to supply chain management, strategic sourcing, and procurement processes and standards.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Procurement and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.

  • Good written and oral communication skills and strong stakeholder management skills.
  • High integrity and confidentiality.
  • Positive attitude to work in a demanding, challenging, and busy environment.
  • Ability to work extended hours when required.
