Apprentice Diesel Plant Fitter

Job Advert Summary

To develop practical competences in diesel plant fitting within a cement manufacturing environment through structured on-the-job training and formal instruction. The apprentice will assist with the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of diesel-powered plant and related equipment to support safe, reliable and efficient plant operations while working under the supervision of qualified artisans and supervisors.

Minimum Requirements

• A minimum of 5 O" Level subjects, including English, Mathematics, and Science, with Grade C or better.
• At least 2 A' Level passes in science subjects added advantage
• Clearance Letter from the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education (Apprenticeship Training Board).
• Be aged between 18 and 24 years

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in carrying out planned preventive maintenance on diesel-powered plant and equipment such as generators, compressors, pumps, loaders, forklifts, mobile plant and other support machinery used in cement production.
• Support breakdown maintenance and fault diagnosis under supervision to minimize equipment downtime.
• Participate in dismantling, cleaning, inspecting, repairing and reassembling diesel engines and related mechanical components.
• Learn and apply safe isolation, housekeeping and tool control practices in the workshop and plant environment.
• Complete assigned apprenticeship modules, logbooks, practical tasks and assessments within required timeframes.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards and inspection checklists.
• Ensure proper care and use of tools, workshop equipment and personal protective equipment.
• Report equipment defects, unsafe conditions and maintenance findings promptly to the supervisor.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving plant reliability, safety and maintenance effectiveness.
• Demonstrate progressive growth in technical competence toward qualification as a Diesel Plant Fitter.
