The overall purpose of the Maintenance Planner is to optimize Plant asset performance and maximize operational uptime by establishing a proactive, systematic approach to equipment care. The core value of this role lies in bridging the gap between strategy and execution—ensuring that routine maintenance, critical condition-monitoring data, and major shutdowns are seamlessly orchestrated before work ever begins. By precisely coordinating resources, materials, and contractors, the position minimizes production bottlenecks, driving down maintenance costs while fostering a culture of continuous improvement through meticulous data integrity and root-cause problem solving.

Minimum Requirements:

Diploma in Engineering or equivalent Heavy Industrial or Mining Environment experience Experience in planning in a Clinker, Cement and/or Lime Quarrying and manufacturing. Maintenance Planning Systems (On Key or CMMS, SAP)

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Business Intelligence - Analyses system history and failure data.
• Functional Strategy and Planning- Manages and oversees the plant’s five-year Asset Care Plan (ACP), covering major asset replacements, renewals, maintenance activities, disposals, and overall asset life cycle requirements
• Shutdown Planning and Coordination - Reviews the previous shutdown post-mortem and use the findings to improve future shutdown planning. Plans and creates shutdown events in ON KEY with input from the Foreman and Technical Specialist. Creates work orders and requisitions for each event and prints the relevant job cards. Liaises with the Foreman to allocate work orders effectively, taking resource availability, job duration, and resource levelling into account. Conducts shutdown post-mortems with the Foreman and Technical Specialist to identify lessons learned and improvement actions.
• Maintenance Planning and Scheduling - Schedules planned maintenance in line with the production run plan by engaging Production during the planning and scheduling process. Ensures maintenance plans minimise impact on production run time. Runs due and backlog lists to identify and use maintenance opportunities during urgent and non-urgent maintenance windows. Creates and maintains a six-month planning horizon and a three-week resource plan. Creates spares requisitions in the system to support proactive maintenance. Plans and schedules follow-up work orders for planned and unplanned jobs, including work arising from the Temporary Change process. Ensures postponed work orders are rescheduled and completed.
• Reporting - Generates and circulates weekly and monthly reports.
• Execution of Maintenance - Optimises the department’s core internal maintenance processes to improve efficiency and execution quality.
• Operational Control - Ensures that data captured in ON KEY is correct, accurate, and relevant. Creates a monthly ON KEY log for resource intangible time booking. Ensures that Planning Clerks capture intangible time accurately and on time. Administers the ON KEY approval change process. Liaises with requesters, the PPC Helpdesk, and the Admin Manager to resolve approval change matters.
• Communication and Reporting - Provides input into interdepartmental INVOCOMs. Ensures that accurate, timely, and relevant key metrics are included in weekly OPS reports. Reports factors, incidents, and accidents that may pose a business risk. Monitors and evaluates month-end and ad hoc control reports, as well as KPIs.
